Inventor-can't edit sketch dimension dialog is blank and not selectable

In Inventor, when editing a sketch I've occasionally seen the 'Edit Dimension' dialog box being blank and truncated similar to this:

The value field is not selectable.

Edit Dimension Blank

Instead of the usual Edit Dimension dialog box with the value and parameter.

What typically fixed this is running the Inventor Reset Utility:

Inventor Reset Utility

Note: Ensure that Windows User Account Control is turned off to allow the utility to delete folders and registry keys to reset Inventor

If resetting Inventor doesn't help, run through a manual uninstall of Inventor:

Clean uninstall of Inventor 2019

Delete these folders and registry keys after uninstalling Inventor from Windows Control Panel:

For Inventor 2019 delete these folders:

  • C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Inventor 2019
  • C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Inventor 2019
  • C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2019
  • C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Inventor 2019
  • C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2019

And delete these Registry keys:

Use the Windows key + R > in the Run dialog box type in Regedit

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\Inventor\Current Version
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion23.0

Warning! Problems caused by improperly editing the Windows Registry could render your computer operating system unusable. Microsoft provides a wealth of critical information that you need to know about the Registry in the Microsoft Knowledge Base . Use the Microsoft Registry Editor only at your own risk and only after backing up the Registry as outlined for your operating system in the Microsoft article How to back up and restore the registry in Windows
