How to mirror objects in Twinmotion

Issue:

Prior to Twinmotion 2025.1, there are dedicated tools to move (translate), rotate and scale objects, but there was no tool to mirror (flip) imported geometry or Twinmotion objects.
This article will guide you on how to mirror objects in Twinmotion 2025.1 and later using the new Mirror Tool, as well as workarounds for older versions of Twinmotion.

Twinmotion 2025:

The Mirror Tool (available from Twinmotion 2025.1) allows you to mirror a copy of imported Geometry as well as some categories of objects.
This new functionality includes the option to mirror a new copy, or merge mirrored objects to original.

Merge modes:

Merge Objects – This makes the original and mirrored copy into one object.

New Objects – This creates a new object, independent of the original object.

Auto – In this mode the objects will merge if the mirrored copy is in contact with the original, if not, a new object will be created.

Limitations:

This tool does not exactly provide an option to flip the original objects in place, in every case, a copy of the original is created. To mirror an object in-place without creating duplicates, please refer to the workaround for Twinmotion 2024.1 and older.

Not all Twinmotion object categories are supported by the Mirror Tool. Here is a list of Twinmotion objects that can be mirrored using the Mirror Tool:

Twinmotion 2024.1 and older:

Twinmotion 2024.1 and older versions do not have any dedicated tool to mirror/flip geometry, however it still has the capability to mirror objects but with some limitations.

Using the Transform panel

Even though this tool was not made specifically to do this, you can mirror any imported geometry in Twinmotion using the transform panel.

To do this:

      1. Select the object/geometry, or a container (folder) of objects/geometry you wish to mirror, then open the transform panel.
      2. Add a – (negative) sign to the scale value (red, green, or blue) depending on the axis you wish to flip the object along.
Twinmotion 2019 - 2022

Twinmotion 2023 - 2025

To reverse this, delete the – (negative) sign from the scale values in the transform panel.

Limitations:

    1. With this method, you cannot mirror a copy of an object/geometry. To do that, you must create a duplicate first.
    2. There is often a small graphics glitch right after an object/geometry has been flipped, making it appear as though it is now translucent, losing its materials/colors. It is temporary and is nothing much to worry about. Simply clicking on any other part of the scene besides the flipped object will restore the graphics.
    3. This function does not allow you to mirror multiple selections. You can flip only one object or container (folder) at a time. If you need to mirror a group of objects/geometry, then create and move them into a common container (folder).
    4. While it is possible to mirror/flip all imported geometry, not all Twinmotion object categories can be mirrored. Here is a list of Twinmotion object categories that can be mirrored:

Note: Using the transform panel to mirror/flip objects that have translators and rotators linked to them may break the links between the objects and the translators/rotators.
